Abstract

ABSTRACT
The development of sustainable sports facilities in tropical climates is essential due to the challenges posed by high temperatures, humidity, and excessive energy consumption. This study aims to explore climate-responsive architectural strategies that improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort while reducing reliance on mechanical cooling. The main objective is to integrate passive cooling techniques, such as natural ventilation, shading devices, and the use of energy-efficient materials, to create environmentally and economically sustainable sports infrastructure. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining site analysis, computational modeling, and case study comparisons to evaluate the effectiveness of different design interventions. Key assessment criteria included energy consumption patterns, indoor air quality, and operational cost efficiency. The findings show that the implementation of passive cooling strategies, such as optimized cross-ventilation and shading mechanisms, can reduce cooling energy requirements by up to 30%. The use of locally sourced materials improves insulation properties while minimizing carbon footprint. Additionally, integrating renewable energy solutions, such as photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting systems, further supports sustainability goals. This analysis highlights that sports facilities designed with climate-responsive principles exhibit lower operating costs, better indoor environmental quality, and greater resilience to climatic conditions. This study underscores the need for a holistic design framework that combines passive and active energy solutions. Future research should focus on long-term performance evaluation, smart building technologies, and adaptive strategies tailored to different tropical regions. By embracing sustainable architecture principles, sports infrastructure can achieve both ecological and economic benefits, contributing to global sustainability goals.
