ABSTRACT
The increasing demand for Islamic education, particularly among female students in rural areas, calls for inclusive and sustainable design approaches. This study presents the architectural design of a Tahfidz Islamic Boarding School for female students in Wajo Regency using a biophilic approach. The design integrates natural elements such as light, air, vegetation, and water to create an emotionally supportive and psychologically comfortable learning environment. Methodologically, the project applies architectural site analysis, user-based programming, and biophilic design principles, including Terrapin Bright Green's 14 patterns. The resulting layout zones public, semi-public, and private areas to optimize circulation, privacy, and safety. Green roofs, cross ventilation, natural materials, and water features are embedded to foster spiritual and cognitive well-being. Structural and utility systems are developed using sustainable technologies such as solar panels and STP water treatment. The spatial configuration supports both academic and religious activities while preserving Islamic values of modesty and contemplation. This biophilic pesantren model demonstrates an effective architectural response to gender-based educational disparities and promotes environmental consciousness among students. It contributes to the discourse on Islamic educational architecture by offering a replicable and adaptable solution for future pesantren development.
