Sistem Green Wall Sebagai Wujud Konsep Arsitektur Biofilik

Penerapan sistem green wall telah dilakukan sejak tahun 2.500 SM. Seiring dengan berkembangnya teknologi, penerapan yang tadinya hanya dilakukan pada bangunan bertingkat rendah, saat ini dapat dilakukan pada bangunan bertingkat tinggi, diantaranya Newton Suite, Singapura. Sistem green wall ini selain merupakan bagian dari konsep arsitektur berkelanjutan, juga sejatinya merupakan perwujudan dari konsep biofilia, utamanya pada lingkungan perkotaan, di mana kualitas hubungan antara manusia dengan lingkungan alaminya telah mengalami penurunan dengan maraknya pembangunan lingkungan binaan yang identik dengan perkerasan diiringi dengan penggunaan teknologi individu. Konsep biofilia pertama kali berangkat dari pemikiran terkait koneksi manusia dengan lingkungan alami oleh Eric Fromm di ranah ilmu antropologi dan psikologi. Kemudian dikembangkan menjadi hipotesa arsitektur oleh Stephen Kellert dan Edward Wilson. Manifestasi dalam bentuk green wall ini banyak dilakukan baik dalam skala makro perkotaan, messo bangunan dan lingkungan sekitarnya, dan mikro pada ruang interior. Makalah ini merupakan studi dari berbagai literatur dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Adapun tujuannya adalah untuk mengetengahkan wacana terkini tentang green wall baik dari sejarahnya, sistemnya, dampaknya, dan contoh-contohnya hingga kini.
